Tips from Atlanta Wedding Officiant, Jennifer Denning
Getting Your Marriage License in Georgia
Time frame:
Marriage licenses in Georgia do not have an expiration
date, so it's a good idea to go ahead and obtain your
license sooner rather than later. Getting your license
early can help to solidify the reality of your
fast-approaching
wedding.
What you will need:
- Two valid forms of id such as drivers license, birth certificate, social security card, U. S. passport, or Resident Alien ID card. You will also be asked to fill out a brief form.
- Both partners must be present.
- Blood tests are no longer required in Georgia.
Cost:
$26-35 depending on the county. Some counties only take cash.
Changing your name:
If the bride is going to change her name, she must sign
the marriage license application with the new name.
Alternative name-changing approaches, for instance if the
groom changes his name, or if the couple creates a new last
name, must be pursued via the standard channels for changing
one's name.
Where to Apply:
If you are a Georgia resident, you may obtain your marriage license at any county marriage license office. If you are a non-resident, you must obtain your license from the county in which you are getting married. Following is the contact information for two metropolitan Atlanta offices:
